We leave early in the morning from Puerto Madryn (1), stopping first at Itsmo Ameghino, the entrance to the Peninsula. From here it is possible to see both gulfs at the same time (Golfo Nuevo and Golfo San José).
We go on towards Bird Island (2), so named because a great many birds nest here: we can see them from the coast with a strong telescope.
Our next port of call is Puerto Piramides (3), a tourist village of three hundred inhabitants, from where we sail to watch the whales (from June to December*). We can see them swimming quite close to the boat, protecting their young.
The rest of the year we'll sail to a sea lion colony where there are about three thousand sea lions. These animals are very curious and friendly, and will swim into the water to greet us as guests as we approach from the sea in our boats.
Caleta Valdés (4), our next destination, is a long "thumb" of sea going into the peninsula, caused by a strange geographic accident, making a river about 20 Km. long. Here we can watch sea elephants, sea lions, birds, and near the coast there is a penguin reserve.
Finally our last stop will be Punta Delgada (5) where there is an old lighthouse at the top of a wonderful cliff, as well as an important sea elephant reserve.
At Killer Whales season we change our trip to visit Punta Norte (6) and enjoy the incredible show that Sea Lions and these animals make for us.
